DISD Tiered Support Model

Enhancing Artistic Excellence – Dallas ISD's Visual and Performing Arts Department

Executive Summary

This proposal presents a tiered professional development and support program tailored for Dallas ISD's Visual and Performing Arts (V&PA) department. The program seeks to enhance the instructional skills of all V&PA teachers, provide additional resources, and offer targeted support for selected schools to spread the Juilliard Approach throughout Dallas ISD and nurture artistic excellence among students.

Program Structure

The proposed tiered support program encompasses three tiers, each designed to cater to different needs within the V&PA department:

Tier 1 - Professional Development for All V&PA Teachers

All V&PA teachers across Dallas ISD will participate in a comprehensive professional development (PD) day focusing on the Juilliard Approach. This PD session will introduce teaching methodologies and techniques used at Juilliard, aiming to integrate these practices into local classrooms and elevate the quality of arts education.

Tier 2 - Virtual Extended PD and Juilliard Creative Classroom Access

A selected group of V&PA teachers will benefit from extended PD sessions, offering them a more in-depth understanding of the Juilliard Approach. These teachers will also gain access to the Juilliard Creative Classroom, a comprehensive digital resource for enhancing their teaching methods and lesson plans.

Tier 3 - Targeted In-person and Virtual Support for Selected Schools

Six schools within Dallas ISD, to be mutually selected, will receive targeted support. This includes intensive PD sessions, regular consultative assistance from Juilliard experts, additional resources, and potential site visits to Juilliard. The aim is to thoroughly incorporate the Juilliard Approach in these schools, significantly raising the standard of their arts education.
