A New Approach

We invite your district to participate in an exciting joint initiative between the Juilliard K–12 department and Digital Promise’s Center for Inclusive Innovation. Using the Inclusive Innovation tenets and model, our goal is to enhance music education by centering the needs and aspirations of students from historically and systematically excluded communities served by your district.

Benefits for Participating Districts

  • Have your students’, teachers’, and communities’ voices heard and incorporated into high-quality professional development for music educators through an equity-centered process facilitated by the Center for Inclusive Innovation
  • Receive teacher professional development, school visits, and ongoing support from Juilliard representatives
  • Build local connections around the performing arts to support youth from historically and systematically excluded communities build their own rich relationship to the arts
  • Participate in a learning network of innovative schools and educators committed to equitable access to the arts

Program Overview

  • Equity-centered, inclusive process to bring students, families, teachers, administrators, and community members together to codefine the role of performing arts and music in particular in students’ education and lives
  • Comprehensive teacher support package, including professional development, collaboration, and innovative teaching strategies
  • Focus on serving students from historically and systematically excluded communities (50% of student population or greater)
  • Exclusive access to Juilliard Creative Classroom resources for participating schools

Please let us know of your interest if your district meets the following criteria

  • Commitment to promoting equity and access in music education
  • At least 50% of the students you serve come from historically and systematically excluded communities (including Black, Brown, and Indigenous students, other students of color, students experiencing poverty, multilingual learners, and students with learning differences)
  • You have full-time music faculty at the elementary, middle and/or high school levels
  • Designated point person for each district
